Church In The City

Everything we do here is Church in the City. The phrase “Church in the City” has become the battle cry of MRCC. This is not a program. It’s a vision for reaching our communities and neighbourhoods. It’s all about “being” the church (remember that church is not a building – it’s the people of God that often meet in that building!) outside of the four walls of the building we call home. The driving verse behind Church in the City is Jeremiah 29:7:

“Seek the peace and the prosperity of the city to which I [God] have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it [the city], because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

As the people of God, we are called to make a positive, eternal difference in this world. Specifically, this means the communities we live in. Tom Clancy said this: “The traditional function of wars is to change An existing state of affairs.” As people, Christian or not, we are in a spiritual fight. We see the affects – good and bad – all around us every day. We are called to be pro-active in bringing change to Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and the other communities represented in this church body. It’s one thing to complain about the world around us; it’s a whole new sphere of impact to step up and use our vision, insight, gifts, and resources, led and empowered by the Sprit of God to bring prophetic and creative solutions to our society’s ills. Like the verse above states, it starts with Prayer. God’s house is called to be a house of prayer. We are called to be a people of prayer. But we believe that God leads us from prayer to action. The ministries that you see at MRCC are initiated and led by a bunch of ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things. God has given so much to us, but it is not just for us. We are called to give away what we have been blessed with. Jesus engaged with the culture of his day, and we are called to do the same. You will find a broad spectrum of activity at MRCC. From Small Groups to Service Teams to House Churches, Church in the City is all about discipleship, training, serving, building community, and following God.

What is God calling you into? It’s time to step up and make a difference!
